Encouraging volunteerism
We support current and former employees who volunteer their time and talent to help the community. Under our Volunteer Involvement Program (VIP), employees, retirees and their spouses or partners can apply for grants for non-profit organizations for which they volunteer services. Through VIP, over $220,000 was granted in 2006 to support more than 240 organizations across the country.
We also encourage employees to volunteer time and expertise on the boards of non-profit organizations. Participating on non-profit boards provides a valuable way to learn about communities while providing business skills to the voluntary sector. In 2006, Imperial executives served as directors to organizations such as Alberta Ecotrust, Junior Achievement of Canada, Let’s Talk Science, the Glenbow Museum, the Calgary Zoo and the SEEDS Foundation.
