Addressing climate change requires taking action today through the use of existing proven methods, as well as seeking major new technologies that could bring about a fundamental change in the way energy is produced and consumed. Significant progress will require actions by both those within and outside of the energy industry.
We are taking near-term and long-term actions to address the challenge of climate change.
> Imperial's near-term actions include, for example, improved energy efficiency of our refineries, the use of cogeneration and the reduction of flaring of natural gas in our Upstream operations.
> Our longer-term actions including sponsoring energy-related research programs such asthe Imperial Oil-Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Oil Sands Innovation and Stanford University's Global Climate and Energy Project.
We are also monitoring government climate change regulations.
