| | Esso contest winner donates $10,000 to Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Department
| Aberdeen, SK, December 16, 2003
| Elvin Dyck never imagined that the routine act of filling up his farm equipment with Esso gasoline would result in a new rapid response truck for the Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Department. The Aberdeen farmer has won an Esso farm fuel contest prize of $20,000 cash, $10,000 of which is to be donated to the charity or non-profit organization of his choice.
"I felt the $10,000 donation would have the greatest impact in our community if it was donated to the fire department", said Mr. Dyck. "Our department can really use this rapid response vehicle to respond quickly to emergencies in Aberdeen and I thank Esso for their support."
Mr. Dyck, who is also Fire Chief of the Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Department, was on hand with the rest of the fire department's volunteers to accept a cheque from Esso at a celebration held in Aberdeen last night. Les Cook, Division Sales Manager with Imperial Oil, presented the department with the cheque.
"At Esso, contributing to the communities in which we live and work has been a way of life for more than a century," said Mr. Cook. "We are very pleased to have an opportunity to partner with Mr. Dyck to donate $10,000 to the Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Department and to make a small difference in this community."
Esso has been fuelling farm businesses in Canada for over 100 years and has been contributing to communities for just as long. In 2002, Esso, through the Imperial Oil Foundation, contributed $6.7 million to over 400 charitable organizations across Canada. In 2003, the Imperial Oil Foundation provided support to Saskatchewan organizations such as the Children's Health Foundation of Saskatchewan, the Saskatoon Symphony, the Globe Theatre, and the United Way.
