Driven a million miles and ready for many more! Esso video captures tear down of vehicle engine after one million miles

| In February 1999, a Prince George-based Detroit Diesel Series 60, 430 hp engine embarked on a journey that saw it use only Esso XD-3 Extra motor oil. Five years and a million miles later, the engine was disassembled and key components were examined for wear and tear. The results were extraordinary and have been captured on video for interested parties.
This engine had very little previous work done on it. The only work had been fuel injector replacement and a replaced turbo charger. The oil pan had never been replaced. There had been no bearing replacements nor had the heads been removed. And yet, the engine was in excellent shape.
"The results were impressive," said Clint Smith, Automotive Technical Specialist with Imperial Oil. "Most parts were in excellent condition: good seals, clean valves, minimal bearing wear, an undamaged crankshaft, and limited piston deposit formation."
