More than 425 Esso sites across the country will be contributing one cent for
every litre of gasoline and a further $1 from each car wash sold at select
sites on Saturday, September 16, 2006, to United Way organizations across
Canada. Additional activities are planned for many participating sites, and
at 11 key locations across Canada, Imperial Oil employees will volunteer their
time to provide Esso customers with added services.
"By
simply visiting your local Esso station this weekend and filling up your tank,
you're helping out people in your community," says Simon Smith, vice-president
of fuels marketing at Imperial Oil. "At Esso, we recognize the importance of
United Way in our community and we're delighted to be able to continue our
commitment to this organization from coast to coast. Last year's one-day
event raised almost $150,000 for United Way in Canada and we’d like to do even
better this year."
"The contribution by each customer
may seem small, but every penny counts and each donation helps make the
difference," notes Al Hatton, President & CEO of United Way Canada-Centraide
Canada. "Through this initiative, Imperial Oil is one of Canada’s leading
donors to United Way - contributing over $14.5 million since 2000. What a
glowing example of corporate social responsibility!"
Money generated from this initiative will be used to fund United Way agencies
helping youth, families in need, the homeless and the vulnerable.
Imperial Oil’s Esso United Way Day is one component of the company’s overall
national United Way campaign - a campaign that raised over $2.65 million for
the organization last year.
Imperial Oil contributed more
than $15 million to enhance the well-being of communities across Canada in
2005, building on a tradition of corporate giving that began with the
company’s inception in 1880. More than 125 years later, Imperial is
supporting organizations from coast-to-coast with an emphasis on education,
environment, and the community. Imperial's goal is to contribute to building
a life-long learning system in Canada that ranks among the best in the world.
