| | Changes to Imperial Oil Material Safety Data Sheets
Global harmonization of product, and health and safety information computing systems has resulted in changes to the format and content of Imperial Oil material safety data sheets (MSDS). This change is effective February 9, 2004 . We have adopted the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and/or the International Labour Organization (ILO) MSDS format which is acceptable under WHMIS.
The new multiple page, 16-section format will be used as new MSDS are created, or when existing sheets are updated. As a result, customers will receive both old and new format MSDS until the transition to the new format is complete.
In order to assist customers in understanding the new MSDS, a table comparing the previous, WHMIS format with the new format is attached. For further information on the ANSI/ILO format, refer to the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) website.
Customers will continue to receive MSDS as per their usual mode of delivery (surface mail, fax or e-mail). Any questions about obtaining MSDS can be directed to Customer Service at 1-800-268-3183.
What does a Canadian MSDS require in comparison to other standards (ANSI, EEC, ILO)?
