Environmental Management
Company Commitment Imperial and ExxonMobil are committed to
environmental management as an integral part of their business. This includes
integrating environmental considerations in business planning, facilities and
product design, operating processes and training programs.
The companies' current operations incorporate extensive environmental design
and protection measures to mitigate effects on water, land and air quality. In
addition, a variety of ongoing consultation forums provide the public with
opportunities to review and provide input to the companies' environmental
performance and future developments.
Reclamation
Mining operations will change the landscape and traditional land use will be
affected. The mining operations only use a portion of the project lands at any
time and much of the lands will not be affected for 20-25 years. When project
lands are used later in the life of the project, the lands used earlier will
be reclaimed. The intent is to engage stakeholders in reclamation planning so
that, to the extent practical, lands reclaimed will have traditional land use
capability and available access. Progressive reclamation will continue
throughout the life of the project. The graphics show the planned status of
the site at four different time periods throughout the operational life of the
mine.
