This is Imperial Oil
Coast-to-coast operations

Imperial Oil has long been a leader in the development of Canada's oil and gas industry and has played a pivotal role in many of the major energy supply developments in Canada. Imperial's landmark discovery at Leduc was instrumental in the creation of the modern Canadian petroleum industry.

Imperial Oil is one of the largest producers of crude oil and natural gas in Canada. With proved reserves of over 1.6 billion oil-equivalent barrels and non-proved resources of 12 billion oil-equivalent barrels, Imperial Oil is in a leading position for growth in resource production through its participation in three regions that hold considerable promise: Canada's oil sands, Far North and East Coast offshore.

Oil sands

Imperial is a major developer of Canada's vast oil sands located in north-central Alberta where the company holds a significant land position with about 465,000 acres of quality oil sands leases.
Cold Lake
Imperial's 100 percent owned and operated Cold Lake development is a premier oil sands asset and one of the largest thermal heavy oil recovery operations in the world. Imperial has pursued a phased development approach at Cold Lake, bringing on new volume as market conditions allow. Production from Cold Lake was piloted from the mid-1960's and commercial production began in 1985. Since then, 13 phases of commercial production have been started up at Cold Lake with almost 4,000 active wells on the site.

Kearl oil sands project
The Athabasca oil sands hold significant potential beyond the opportunities being pursued at Syncrude. Imperial Oil and ExxonMobil Canada , separate but affiliated companies, are advancing development work on an oil sands mining opportunity in the Kearl Lake area, about 70 kilometres north of Fort McMurray , Alberta . The companies’ design basis involves a phased development approach, with an initial development of about 100,000 barrels a day and later expansions to as much as 345,000 a day. Current plans do not include any on-site bitumen upgrading facilities for the first phase of development and the companies are evaluating a range of options including potential integration with North American refineries owned by Imperial and ExxonMobil.

Syncrude Canada
Imperial is one of the founders and a 25-percent owner of Syncrude Canada, a mining and upgrading operation in the Athabasca oil sands region near Fort McMurray, Alberta. Syncrude is the world's largest producer of crude oil from oil sands and the largest single source producer in Canada.

Northern gas opportunity

Imperial is the lead company in a co-venture advancing the development of discovered, onshore natural gas resource in the Mackenzie Delta region of Canada's Far North. Imperial's Taglu field represents half of the almost 6 trillion cubic feet of discovered natural gas resource which anchors the proposed pipeline project.

East Coast gas opportunities

The East Coast of Canada is one of the country's newest regions of petroleum production and holds significant potential for further development. Imperial has a nine-percent working interest in the Sable offshore energy project, a major gas-production venture that is located in relatively shallow water about 250 kilometres southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Imperial also holds exploration interests off the coasts of both Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. Current focus is on the Orphan Basin, a deep-water exploration opportunity off the east coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Conventional oil and natural gas operations

Imperial is among Canada's largest producers of conventional crude oil and natural gas, and operates numerous oil and gas fields in western Canada.
