Esso hockey programs
From medals of achievement and our support of amateur hockey programs and sponsorship of our national men's and women's hockey teams; to sponsorship of the Hockey Hall of Fame and our involvement with Canada's professional hockey teams; Imperial's many links with the national game are directed toward encouraging young players to take the challenge and shoot for their goals and dreams.

Esso Medals and Certificates of Achievement:  Not just building champions on ice, but champions in life
Established in 1981, the Esso Medals and Certificates of Achievement program has become part of the fabric of Canadian community hockey. To date nearly two million medals of achievement and over 30 million of certificates of participation have been awarded to young boys and girls on behalf of Esso. Under the program, three medals of achievement most improved player, most dedicated player, and most sportsmanlike player are available to every hockey team registered with Hockey Canada. As well, each team can receive certificates of participation to recognize the efforts of every player.

The emphasis of the Medals and Certificates of Achievement program has never been to reward a player for having a great slap shot or superior skating skills. Instead, it recognizes players who contribute to the game of hockey through dedication, effort and fair play. By rewarding those qualities, the program hopes to go beyond hockey, to build champions in life.

Esso women's national hockey championships
When the first Women's Canadian Championship was held in 1982 there were only about 5000 players, 345 teams and eight leagues. Now, 20 years later, there are more than 54,000 players and 2,600 teams in 13 branches. The objectives of the women's national championship are:
  • to bring together the top team from each province for elite competition
  • to strengthen the development of women's hockey within the provincial hockey associations
  • and to present a common goal for teams and players − to compete for the Esso Women's National championship
The 2008 Esso Women's National Championship will be held in Charlottetown, PEI.
